Let’s Do This!

Hello!

Who is this nomad?

As mentioned in my About tab, my name is Carla Walsh, a San Francisco Bay Area based freelance travel photographer and travel content contributor. As a west coast native, my goal was to get beyond my California roots and see what else is out there. I’ve worked in the travel industry as a travel agent, concierge, and customer service professional and have kept up with what’s going on in the world of travel for over 25 years. Taking pictures and documenting my experiences for myself and my clients along the way was something I enjoyed doing, often creating personalized itineraries for clients and friends just for the fun of it. I didn’t want anyone missing out on anything! After kicking around the idea of turning my passions into a full-time operation, I’m finally putting ideas into action.

With that in mind, my goal is to encourage exploration with senses fully engaged. I encourage you to travel with your heart open and be willing to absorb your surroundings beyond your well-planned itinerary. The magic truly happens in the unexpected and sometimes in the "disasters" we encounter.

For those who have eternal wanderlust and can’t get away, I HEAR YOU. I’ve had those pangs of get me outta here while fully engaged at work with no escape. I hope I can at least give you a visual getaway until you can take that trip, or bring back a memory of a favorite destination you hold dear to your heart. But I will always encourage everyone to fight for that escape-even if it’s for a day at the museum or a weekend in your same town at a hotel. Just change it up!

Why is travel so important?

Aside from my own need to travel, I have seen how traveling and going abroad can add to our personal growth. Working in student travel, I watched the change take place in young adults who returned from semesters abroad, beaming about the experiences they had and new friendships they made. I’ve sent couples on 50th Anniversary trips and single ladies traveling alone for the first time, something I did often until I found my permanent travel partner. Everybody’s travel experiences are uniquely their own.

Ultimately, I believe travel and the interactions when we go beyond our comfort zones can bring the world together. We need that right now, don’t we? I look forward to interacting with fellow travel junkies and creating a place of idea exchanges. Let me know where you’ve been, where you want to go, what places are calling to you, where YOU think everybody should go at least once in their life, even if it’s in your own backyard.
